ServerSwitch

Workstation Switching Convenience

A ServerSwitch is an active, microprocessor controlled switching device which allows a single keyboard, monitor and mouse to be switched among five different workstations. ServerSwitches can be daisy-chained to access up to 25 CPUs from 1 monitor and keyb oard. Video, keyboard and mouse signals are all switched transparently to each CPU, eliminating interference with active CPU processes.

Keyboard emulation is supplied at all times to all CPU's (regardless of switch position), thereby eliminating a processor re-boot which would occur if a processor detected a missing keyboard. All video channels are passed transparently along with their r espective monitor sense lines, allowing correct CPU video setup. In the event of disconnection or interruption of any one of the inputs to the ServerSwitch an error will be displayed on the front panel of the ServerSwitch when that channel is selected.

With the optional Remote Control Unit, ServerSwitches can be controlled from a user location outside the computer installation. For long distances (up to 3,000 feet) a VDE/200 Video Display Extension Sytem (also from Lightwave) can be used.

ServerSwitch Display Informaton

The LED displays on the master will always show the selected channel. If the selected channel exhibits a loss of keyboard signal, the LED display will continouously flash, showing "E" (error) and then the channel number.

The LED displays on the slave(s) will normally show the switch number relative to the master. For instance, the next switch in the line after the master will show "A2" (second line), the one after that will show "A3" and so on. If an error is detected o n a slave channel, that slave LED will flash "E" and the channel number. This will help locate a problem quickly by glancing at the switch displays.
